About Me

I am a professional software developer who is based in Warwickshire. I enjoy messing around with computers, writing, literature, video games, and the great outdoors.

My favourite programming language is C++. I have been working with it since 2015 and within a professional capacity since 2019.

My text editor of choice is Emacs, although it's much more than a text editor, when I'm emersed within it I can easily forget the Linux system that Emacs is sitting on top of.

I am very much against the "AI" trend that presently overshadows all of technology. I try to avoid it as much as possible: I carry out my own writing, I don't "vibe code" or use "AI" tools for code review. I do not generate images, since human-made art will always be preferrable to my eyes, even rough sketches! More generally, I would prefer to live in a world, including the world of bits and bytes, that is crafted by humans; using human minds, human conversation and learning from mistakes that can only be understood by humans, that is based upon a substrate of human to human understanding. I feel very strongly that "AI" cannot integrate into that desire, and only serves to undermine creativity, relationships, and humanity itself.
